Spotlight: T’Neil Walea

This month the feature for our spotlight blog is T'Neil Walea! She is a passionate coffee drinker from Texas! She is hardworking and consistently pours into those around her! Enjoy learning a little bit more about her below!

So tell our followers a little bit about yourself!
My name is T’Neil Walea - I am the wife of Tyler and the mother of Paisley and L’Wren. I am Pastor’s wife of First Church and Program Manager for IBM Center of Excellence.

I have a feeling that you love coffee, just about as much as we do here at MOD. So share with us what your favorite coffee is...
My favorite coffee is an Ethiopian bean made with a French press. Strong and black - as all coffee should be. However - My order at Starbucks is a quad grande cappuccino.

You recently shared with your Instagram followers you preparing dinner, what is your favorite meal to prepare?
I love cooking anything - it requires my complete attention, therefore, it relaxes me. My favorite meal to make is Italian food - homemade pasta with a raging sauce.
Or! Asian food - I found a cookbook from Jean Georges and I am currently cooking my way through it. It’s so fun!

Where and how do you work best?
I work with checklists and to do lists in my office ar the church. I’m not a procrastinator but I do require a schedule to ensure I complete all my tasks.
I love checking things off a list. It’s rewarding.
I get to work for IBM from my church office so it’s perfect. Such a God thing!

Who or what inspired you to do what you’re doing now?
I spent 20 years behind a computer running media/making graphics. It’s crazy how God prepares you for things in your future.
What inspired me - I walked through a door God opened. When I started I didn’t even know what Cloud Computing consisted of... and now I’m currently typing this out at an Executive Leadership meeting with the National Security Administration. God does amazing things.
My family has always held multiple jobs - both church and secular. So it’s just kinda what we do. It’s so amazing to be “in the world” but not of it - it’s my opportunity to reach people.

What do you believe are the biggest stumbling blocks for woman and what are ways you're found to overcome them?
We hold ourselves back. We look at a stereotype and feel like if we can’t measure up - then we can’t be used.
God gave us gifts and talents for a reason. Whatever gift you have, find a way to use it for Him.
Also.... we judge each other. My prayer is that we will start supporting each other - celebrate each other’s giftings. Can you imagine if we were all rooting for each other?!

What books are you currently reading?
Big Data, LeaderShift, and How to be a welcoming church
Very diverse 😬

What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Be you. I spent 20 years trying to be someone I wasn’t. I can’t do what other pastors wives can do - but I can be me. And. That’s. What. God. Wants. From. Me.
I’ve always wanted to sing and play - I can’t. But I can do other things. Don’t focus on what you can’t do. You’re a 10 in some area - find it and soar. Soar high.

You have shared with your followers that you use V-Shred to help keep you fit, why is healthy living important to you?
I live a busy life. V shred is easy, at home workout that you can do in the comfort of your own house.  Exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins being released reduces stress and makes you happier.
Healthy living is essential.

What does living a healthy lifestyle look like to you?
I eat balanced meals and exercise as often as I can. I drink a lot of water (and coffee). I am not a hardcore healthy eater - I love chocolate and cheese. But it’s all in balance.

Lastly, if you could leave anyone with one last thought, what would it be?
There’s no talent or skill that you have that is an accident. Don’t judge yourself what others want you to be. Pray that God will show you a way to use your giftings and your talents for him. Shine. Encourage other ladies. Together - we make a difference.
