Spotlight – Angel Craig

Running is a mental sport and we are all insane! Ever wanted to see whats it’s like inside the head of one of these insane runners? What are they actually thinking? You could ask them questions like: ‘What is the point of running an extra .2 miles, isn’t 26 enough?’ or ‘Do you ever think, “I wish these people would be quiet, I’m not almost there!”‘ Welcome to our Spotlight, where we will get to the bottom of these important questions.
MOD Sportswear will be posting a monthly Spotlight blog, where we will interview different MOD runners. The interviews will be fun, inspirational, and original, providing you with an opportunity to see the running struggles and successes of actual athletes. In these short blurbs, we can promise originality and authenticity, but we will not promise a heavily edited response. Here’s to the real and the raw.

Angel Craig
Angel Craig is a multi-talented athlete… and yes that awesome picture is Angel; she’s a boss. She has been happily married for almost 27 years and is the proud mother of 2 boys. She has 3 dogs: Salty, Sydney, and Kobe.
If you could describe your personality as a breakfast food what would it be and why?
“A plain ole pancake. Because mostly everyone likes them. And if they don’t, they’re probably not your friend! HAHAHA. Now, really, they are ME. They’re simple, uncomplicated, and service a great multi-tasking purpose (which is very ME) – getting carbs and delish flat heaven on a plate.”
What is the reason you workout?
“To take the best care of the body the Good Lord has loaned me, until He’s ready to take it back. As Christian Apostolic women, I believe it is vital that we show this world that we can be modest, fit, friendly and healthy. It’s hard to worship the way we were designed to if we’re not in decent shape.”
What is the craziest thing you have ever seen on one of your running routes?
“I wish I could say a Liger or spaceship, but there’s really nothing that stands out. Ocala is pretty boring.”
What is your greatest inspiration to workout?
running struggles“My children. I want them to know that Mom was able to work a full-time job, take care of the house and tend to their needs, stay extremely involved in the church, stay married to her first love, and maintain her health. #inaskirt”

What is your greatest strength when it comes to running?
“Determination. Quitting is never an option.”

What is one of the toughest running struggles you have ever faced?
“Insomnia. I have battled this for years. It is very difficult to properly train a tired, compromised body. When my running group starts at 4:45 and 5am, and I have to drive 30 minutes, that means I am up at 4. During marathon training those hours can creep into the 3am timeframe. My schedule is crazy busy so I squeeze in my workouts when I can, but optimal performance is done first thing in the morning when the mind and body is fresh.”
What one piece of advice would you give running beginners?
“Do not compare yourself with anyone. Period. Ever. I strongly encourage joining local Facebook running groups in the community. A simple group search from your area should pop-up options. Having a support system of people that know the answers you don’t is extremely helpful. Also, there are group opportunities to be able to sync up with people who are new also. Accountability to me is HUGE. You do not have to do it alone.  I’ve been able to use my running to reach others for Bible studies, church events, and so much more.”
Do you have a workout slogan?
“I’ve used this hashie forever
#bethebetterU”
